This is an advertisement for Schwinn bikes from a 1960s "Boys Life" magazine. We bought our Schwinn's at Sauganash Cycle, which I think was on Cicero near Peterson, right? Always wanted an "Orange Krate" or at least a "Fastback" with the 5-speed stickshift, but ended up with the classic Stingray. For $86.95 (1960s dollars), I can see why my dad wouldn't pop for the Orange Krate.

One of the great late-night hangout spots in Lincolnwood lore was Jack's Restaurant on Touhy across the Edens in Skokie. This is a postal card from the 1950s, when the place was called Jake's after owner Jake Joseph. I guess he changed his name to Jack sometime soon after that.

Unfortunately, smoking ordinances killed Jack's late-night business and it now is only open until like 3 p.m. or something. I know know for sure because I haven't been there in a long time, which is too bad.
