Sauganash Cycle

This is an advertisement for Schwinn bikes from a 1960s "Boys Life" magazine. We bought our Schwinn's at Sauganash Cycle, which I think was on Cicero near Peterson, right? Always wanted an "Orange Krate" or at least a "Fastback" with the 5-speed stickshift, but ended up with the classic Stingray. For $86.95 (1960s dollars), I can see why my dad wouldn't pop for the Orange Krate.

Sauganash Cycle was on Cicero near Peterson and was owned by former famous bicycle racer Al Stiller. Al died in Boulder, Colorado in 2003. As a teen In the early 60's I used to go there and look at the racing bikes and racing photographs. Because of Al I went on to be a successful road and track racer and Illinois district Champion 3 times. He was a terrific man.
