Welcome to the Lincolnwood page. I have fond memories of my South Side roots but moved to Lincolnwood in 1967 and was very fortunate to have grown up there. For those of you from Rutledge Hall and Lincoln Hall, I hope these "blasts from the past" bring back as many fond memories for you as they do for me.

And this is a Lincolnwood-only page. Any of you Grovers out there have to register and get a password to view this page. So buzz off!

Feel free to comment on or submit content for this page. Just e-mail me at mpot59@aol.com and I'll try to put it on the page.

Oh, yeah -- just kidding about the Morton Grove password thing.

Sauganash Cycle

This is an advertisement for Schwinn bikes from a 1960s "Boys Life" magazine. We bought our Schwinn's at Sauganash Cycle, which I think was on Cicero near Peterson, right? Always wanted an "Orange Krate" or at least a "Fastback" with the 5-speed stickshift, but ended up with the classic Stingray. For $86.95 (1960s dollars), I can see why my dad wouldn't pop for the Orange Krate.

Jack's Restaurant -- before it was Jack's

One of the great late-night hangout spots in Lincolnwood lore was Jack's Restaurant on Touhy across the Edens in Skokie. This is a postal card from the 1950s, when the place was called Jake's after owner Jake Joseph. I guess he changed his name to Jack sometime soon after that.

Unfortunately, smoking ordinances killed Jack's late-night business and it now is only open until like 3 p.m. or something. I know know for sure because I haven't been there in a long time, which is too bad.

Doral

This is a postal card from Doral Restaurant at Touhy and Kilpatrick, not far from Biasetti's. We used to go there a lot. It's a Greek restaurant now, I think.

Anybody remember this place?

Does anybody remember the Hickory Pit. It was on Lincoln Ave., across from Gabby Hartnett's -- probably just north of the bank, I think:

WCFL Top 40 -- April 8, 1971

Tom Jones, The Temptations, the Carpenters, The Ides of March, Alice Cooper, Paul McCartney, Janis Joplin, Marvin Gaye, The Patridge Family, Santana and the Jackson 5. It's no wonder I developed eclectic tastes in music.
